Who We Are

About iCan Bike Houston

You want your special needs family member to ride, and we believe they can. Launched in 2023 by volunteer parents of children with special needs, iCan Bike Houston works all year to set up, fundraise, and execute a one-week summer camp to teach individuals with special needs how to ride a two-wheel bicycle.

iCan Bike Houston is part of the iCan Shine family of programs, a national nonprofit that sends expert staff and equipment specially designed for individuals with disabilities. With the help of community partners and donations, we hope to see this program rolling for many years to come.

The parents, volunteers, and sponsors have the opportunity to be impacted right alongside them. I cannot wait to be along for the ride.

So much of her life has not come easily, so when I heard about this program I was a complete skeptic. Boy was I proven wrong - not only was Harper successful on 2 wheels, but the confidence that being able to ride a bike has given her is something you can’t replicate! For kids who struggle in so many areas of life, this has truly been a gift to see her shine! When she participated in 2019 I knew this organization was something I myself wanted to pour into- so when the buzz started up again to bring it back to Houston post-Covid I immediately wanted to help make it happen. With my team of 3 other special needs parents we look forward to seeing how many families in Houston can be impacted by learning to ride!

By popular demand, in the Summer of 2023 I was excited to join a motivated group of new and alumni parents to found the new organization of iCan Bike Houston. I am excited every year to meet our new bike campers, families, volunteers, and riders!

It is a true honor and privilege to support this great group of parents and help bring the iCan Bike camp to Houston!  After many failed attempts over several years of trying to teach my 10-year-old son, Pierce, to ride a bike, I found out about iCan Shine.  With no local camp at the time in Memphis where we lived, I took time off work and drove him three hours each way to Nashville every day for a week.  It required incredible time and effort, but he finished the week able to ride a bike independently and with ease!  The life changing confidence it gave Pierce is what inspires me to give that same confidence to children with disabilities in the Houston area, where a bike camp is much needed.  Excited to help pay it forward!

My wife and I meet at a triathlon, and riding has been a part of our lives. We are excited to help bring this program to Houston and have our Daughter learn to ride a bike confidently with her disabilities. We are thankful for so many parents and sponsors who help make this happen!
